These machines work on the principle
of air pressure which comes from a
external compressor. It is recommended
that the compressor work on air
pressure of 6 atm. A tube extends from
the compressor which hooks up to the
sander/polishers. This type of machine
gives us control over hard to reach
places which angled grinding machines can't reach.
The amount of material (stone, metal, etc.)
that is removed from the art work depends on
the speed, force and sanding head of the machine. Standard Tools
This tools rotate at speeds of 20,000 -25,000 rpm. Professional tools
rotate at the speed of 25,000 - 30,000 rpm.
The difference in price are quite significant.
An inexpensive tool will cost about $50.00 and the
professional one from about $250 to $500.
Simple Tools make a great deal of noise, whereas
professional tools usually come with a noise
reduction device.
Sanding/polishing heads come in various sizes:
1. simple heads from stone are pink
2. heads with have sand paper attached
3. heads for cutting with small diamonds disks attached
4. diamond heads according to the type of stone it is being used for
5. Carburendum heads - rough material suited for hard stones.
