These machines work on the principle
of air pressure which comes from a
external compressor. It is recommended
that the compressor work on air pressure of 6 atm.
These are used whenever it is necessary
to remove large amounts of the stone being sculpted.
The machine works by placing the chisel
on the hammer head and when the air pressure
value is opened the chisel begins hammering.
In this way, much more power is generated than
if a standard hammer and chisel were used.
It's essential to suit the size of the chisel to
the size hardness of the stone being chiseled.
The harder the quality of the stone, the larger the chisel needed.
Chisels are used also to create textures in the
stone by using serrated or metabu chisels which
have square serrated heads.
